IPOH: Former Mentri Besar of Perak Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir has accused Perak Corporation Bhd (PCB) Auditing Committee chairman Chong Zhemin of subjecting him to a “trial by media” with his continuous allegations over the cost overrun of the Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) project.
Breaking his silence, Dr Zambry said it was unfair for Chong to make accusations against him through the media every day when the audit on MAPS had not even been completed yet.
Calling Chong's action “annoying”, he questioned the motive of the DAP assemblyman.
“I was accused of hiding while these allegations were made.
“Will this auditing process be made professionally or (will it be) just an audit through the media, seeing as to how Chong has something to say daily,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Mar 28).
“It's clear that what they are doing is not to get to the truth but for the DAP to exact political revenge against me and the previous Barisan Nasional administration.
“It is also another attempt by the DAP to twist this matter for political gain, and not for public benefit,” he added.
Chong had on Saturday (March 23) revealed that according to a special audit report the actual cost to develop MAPS was RM607mil, and not RM390mil as originally stated.
He said an additional RM217mil had to be allocated to fund it.
Chong then repeatedly called out Dr Zambry, challenging him to take responsibility and explain the additional allocation.
Dr Zambry said he was neither the chairman of PCB nor Animation Theme Park Sdn Bhd (ATP) at the time.
“I was only the chairman of Perak State Development Corporation through my position as the Mentri Besar.
“PCB is a public-listed company that is monitored closely by the Bursa Saham,” he said.
“PCB cannot make any decision without going through proper procedure and permission,” he added.- Star
