AMANAH AGM | It is status quo for the top five positions in Amanah following the end of the party's first national leadership election today.
Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu was returned as president while Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Salahuddin Ayub will remain as deputy president.
The three vice-presidents are Deputy Human Resources Minister Mahfuz Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa, and Hulu Langat MP Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus.
The five were among 27 individuals who were elected to the party's central committee.
The central committee, along with 14 state chapter heads and heads of the party's three wings, in turn elected among themselves who would take up positions in the national leadership.
The new top leadership line-up was announced by convention Speaker Onn Jaafar at Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam this morning.
A total of 822 central delegates voted via e-voting for 27 leaders from among 94 contenders. Aside from the five top positions, the remaining 22 who made the cut will be appointed to various central leadership roles.
Last night, it was announced that Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad had topped the list with 786 votes, while Mohamad Sabu ranked seventh with 681 votes.
The three day convention continues today with debates on Mohamad Sabu's policy speech. - Mkini
