UMNO AGM | An Umno delegate has slammed party leaders and MPs who met Pakatan Harapan ministers to ask for financial allocations.
Omar Faudzar (photo) from Umno's Bukit Gelugor division said the existence of termites could be detrimental to the party.
"We don't want termites in our party as they can collapse the party.
"Seven had gone to (see Harapan ministers) asking for allocation. I want to tell you, PAS has become the opposition for decades and so did PKR, they never came to Umno for funds," Omar said.
He said this when debating the policy speech of the president at the Umno general assembly 2019.
"Where is the dignity of the Umno people and leaders?" he said without mincing his words.
"No money? (You) can ask from the Umno grassroots.....The spirit of grassroots are higher than the people up there....It is so sad," he said to loud cheers and applause.
At this point, deputy speaker Rizuan Abd Hamid tried to stop Omar from his speech and said: "Penang (delegate) you can (debate), but those you mentioned are in the hall."
Omar then replied: "Yes, I know. I want to say here, when we sit as members in a hall and an association, we have a president and we have to listen to the president."
"If you don't want to listen to the president, then you might as well don't sit at the association.
"If you just wanted to listen to others instead of the president, don't stay with the association."
Umno members then responded with passionate cheers and some of them even stood up.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was seen speaking to Ridzuan, who did not stop Omar from continuing his speech.
"I am not reprimanding anyone, I am just offering a medicine. The best medicine is the most bitter one," added Omar.
Omar turned to Zahid and said that he noted the president acted as though he was afraid to speak.
"Sometimes I see that the president was afraid to answer. But, look at those who stood up just now, they want a decision from you. A firm one.
"If (you) want to be a leader, you have to be firm.
"We don't want any termites in Umno because the termites can collapse the party," Omar said.
Last month, former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein was said to have led 22 Umno lawmakers to meet PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.
Speculation was rife that Hishammuddin was attempting to form a government without DAP and Amanah.
Hishammuddin had denied the existence of such a plot while the MPs claimed that the meeting was about economic matters and allocations for their constituencies.
Branding disloyal leaders as "hopping reptiles", Zahid had threatened not to field them as candidates in the next general election. - Mkini
