PKR AGM | The warming ties between PKR's top two is a step forward towards uniting the top leadership and will eventually transcend all levels of the party, said PKR Wanita wing chief Haniza Talha.
"Everyone felt relieved when they saw the two leaders sitting together and discussing the way forward. I think this is the correct decision," she said at a press conference on the sidelines of the PKR women's wing congress in Malacca today.
Haniza said the meeting between PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Azmin Ali on Wednesday to sort out differences was "perfect timing" because it resolved issues ahead of the party congress this weekend.
She was responding to a question on whether the contents of Azmin's speech last night signalled that a rapprochement was on the horizon.
Last night, Azmin officiated the congress of the PKR Youth and Wanita wings with a speech heavy on reconciliation and how all differences within the party can be resolved.
The tensions between Anwar and Azmin reached crisis levels when PKR Youth decided to break the tradition of having the deputy president officiate its congress.
Following this, Azmin's supporters boycotted the Sarawak PKR convention and threatened to hold an "alternative meeting" this weekend in Kuala Lumpur.
During the meeting on Wednesday, the PKR political bureau decided to reverse PKR Youth's decision and arranged to have Azmin officiate the opening of the congress of both wings last night. - Mkini
