PKR AGM | The PKR Youth Congress this morning began in crisis as sacked permanent chairperson Mizan Adli Mohd Noor was barred from entering the event.
Security personnel at the entrance were seen holding Mizan back and later closing the doors him and his supporters.
A shouting match and some shoving ensued.
Mizan was overheard telling security personnel that barring him was unfair.
He managed to enter the hall after pushing through the ruckus.
Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Mizan said he had been blocked from attending the meeting because he had been stripped of his position.
“The party only fired me, but they (security personnel) did not allow me to enter the hall, this is unfair and not democratic.
“Party president (Anwar Ibrahim) and deputy president (Azmin Ali) already decided to elect a new permanent chairperson.
“So why can’t I come in?” he said.
The congress secretariat later explained in the event’s WhatsApp group that those barred from entering did not have the proper tags.
“Only delegates with a proper tag are allowed to come in. We will resume the entry after the situation is under control,” a secretariat member said.
New chairs elected in walkovers
The ruckus among the clashing PKR Youth members spilt into the hall, interrupting PKR Information chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin as he called for a vote for the new permanent chairperson and permanent deputy chairperson.
Malacca PKR Youth secretary Rashid Abu Bakar was later appointed as chairperson without a vote because his contender, Pokok Sena PKR Youth chief Mohd Shafiq Mohd Altab failed to appear.
The deputy role went to Kedah PKR Youth chief Wan Mohamad Syahrezal Wan Shahidan as he was the only candidate.
Mizan to make a police report
Mizan later held a press conference condemning the morning’s clashes and pinned the blame for it on PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Nasir.
He also claimed he was physically assaulted and told the leave the hall after making it inside.
“Is Akmal using gangsters? We didn’t do anything.
“All decisions about these roles need to be decided in a congress meeting, but I was not allowed to enter the congress.
“I, therefore, regard this congress as tidak sah (invalid) because the (new chairpersons) were elected without me inside,” he said, referring to the party rules.
Mizan announced plans to lodge a police report on the incident.
“After this press conference I will lodge a police report on the violence directed against me and towards other party members,” he said.
He also claimed more than 200 members were not allowed to enter this morning’s Youth congress.
More clashes took place after Mizan ended his press conference, primarily between security personnel and those barred from entering the hall. - Mkini
