Umno sets up fund to support its struggle

Umno AGM | Umno has set up a fund to collect donations to support its struggle, party secretary-general Annuar Musa announced.

Dubbed the "Umno-Struggle Fund" (Umno-Tabung Perjuangan), he said the fund was started yesterday, after approval from the Umno Supreme Council.

"I wish to announce that following the consent of the party president and approval of the supreme council, a fund that is meant to assist the struggle of Umno has been set up yesterday," Annuar told 2,695 delegates at the Umno General Assembly held in PWTC today.

"...let us berjihad (fight hard) to collect the fund," he said when tabling secretary-general's report.

"The speaker will later collect funds from the delegates... If you don't have RM1,000 then contribute RM3,000. Maybe you can channel the money into the account in CIMB," Annuar said, jokingly.

He also announced that a permanent secretariat of the Muafakat Nasional would be set up at Umno's headquarters.

Membership roll 'cleaned up'

The secretariat will be jointly run by the secretariat officials from Umno and PAS to implement the decision of the joint technical committee and a joint steering committee of Muafakat Nasional, Annuar said.

He said Umno has cleaned up its membership roll between December 2018 and February 15, 2019, after some members had defected to other parties.

He said only two percent of Umno members and leaders have defected to other parties, while four percent of its members had passed away.

Umno, which used to have a strong membership of 3.6 million, is now reduced to 3.29 million members.

Annuar said a total of 11,363 people registered online as members while the divisions nationwide registered 28,000 new members.
