Say sorry to Hindus, unity minister tells Tajuddin

P Waytha Moorthy says insults to any religion or ethnic group should never be uttered in the New Malaysia.
PETALING JAYA: P Waytha Moorthy today demanded that a Barisan Nasional MP sincerely apologise to DAP’s RSN Rayer and Hindus over insensitive remarks about holy ash worn on the forehead, a day after urging all parties to “move on” from the episode.
Waytha, who is in charge of national unity, said Tajuddin Abdul Rahman should do so “in the spirit of being truly Malaysian”.
“Insults to any religion or ethnic group should never be uttered in the New Malaysia, especially by an experienced MP such as YB Pasir Salak,” Waytha said in a statement, referring to Tajuddin’s constituency.
Tajuddin courted controversy on Tuesday in the Dewan Rakyat after linking the holy ash worn by Rayer to the ashes of former Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng.
He has since retracted his remarks.
Yesterday, Waytha and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged all parties to accept Tajuddin’s retraction and move on.
Rayer, however, said that no one could move on until the former deputy minister had offered a “sincere, remorseful and honest“ apology to the community.
Today, Waytha said that as an MP, Tajuddin should have been more knowledgeable about the seriousness of his remarks.

He also backed the proposal for Tajuddin to be referred to the Committee of Privileges over his actions. - Mkini
