'After the rain, comes the sun' – PM tells Malaysians to be resolute

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Malaysians to remain resolute in battling the spread of the Covid-19 virus, which he described as a divine test.
He also recognised the burdens and difficulties due to the movement control order (MCO), which has entered its third week.
"Some are feeling the burden due to this test from God. We are stopped from going about our normal lives. We have left our hobbies, miss our friends and families.
“In short, our lives are now totally different," he said when announcing an additional RM10 billion stimulus package this afternoon.
The prime minister noted how people were attempting to make the best of the situation based on social media postings depicting those cycling indoors and even turning his speech into a song.
"Let us remember that we are inherently resilient, individually capable and collectively strong.
"Let us strengthen our resolve and stay committed to our fight against Covid-19. Let us stay the course and follow all orders made under the MCO. It is difficult but not impossible.
"Stay strong, stay healthy, insyaAllah (god willing) we will succeed. Remember, after the rain, comes the sun. And better days will be here again," he added.
Muhyiddin said this is the sacrifice which must be made in order to win against the virus, which has claimed more than 60 lives in Malaysia and the global death toll surpassing 60,000.
"Winning this war starts in our homes and with our families,” the prime minister emphasised.
“We can stop the virus from spreading by staying at home and maintaining physical distance," he added.
Muhyiddin also pledged that the government would be transparent in its spending and act according to the laws and Federal Constitution.
He said the government would table a supplementary supply bill at the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting for the House to pass the stimulus package.
Pakatan Harapan leaders have repeatedly called on the federal government to allow parliamentarians to debate the RM250 billion economic stimulus plan unveiled by Muhyiddin on March 27.
On Feb 27, former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad also announced a RM20 billion stimulus package to help industries affected by the coronavirus.
As of yesterday, Malaysia recorded 3,662 positive Covid-19 infections.
The Health Ministry would provide the relevant data to the government on April 10 to decide if the MCO should be extended beyond April 14. - Mkini
