CORONAVIRUS | As the country enters into the third phase of the movement control order, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he had met with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to discuss matters including ongoing measures taken to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.
"In the 45-minute meeting, he (Muhyiddin) explained about measures taken in dealing with the outbreak, and I extended my gratitude over the service of government machineries, civil society and the community," said Anwar (above).
The meeting took place at the prime minister’s office in Putrajaya.
"I also raised the issue of dissemination of information which must be done transparently, and a need to increase our testing capabilities," said the Port Dickson MP.
Anwar, who previously urged Muhyiddin to table the RM250 billion Bantuan Prihatin Nasional Covid-19 stimulus package for debate in Parliament, said he also informed the prime minister that the cash aid appears to have been well received.
"But the effectiveness of its implementation must be ensured so that it will not be politicised at the grassroots level," he added.
Anwar also said that Muhyiddin had touched on the upcoming May 18 Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Earlier today, the Harapan presidential council urged Muhyiddin Yassin to hold an emergency Dewan Rakyat sitting this week to develop a bipartisan response to the outbreak.
In a statement today, the council said the plan's objective was to rescue the economy and save jobs, with many industries severely hit by the pandemic. - Mkini
