A Court of Appeal hearing made history this morning when proceedings were live-streamed for public viewing for the first time.
Courts nationwide have been ordered to close following the movement control order (MCO) which came into force on March 18.
However, proceedings for remands, new cases and bails are carried out as usual.
The hearing this morning involved three appellants - Zhoa Fangliang, Jin Haifang and Zhu Cunhua - against transportation company Syarikat Pengangkutan Satu Hati Sdn Bhd.
It was conducted via video conference and simultaneously broadcast live at 10am.
The Federal Court Chief Registrar's Office's corporate communications unit released a statement saying the live streaming was to give the public access to these hearings which are usually conducted in the open courts.
Judges Kamardin Hashim, Lee Swee Seng and Azizah Nawawi presided over the appeals which were heard together as they shared common facts and principles of law.
Lawyer KF Ee represented the three appellants while the company was represented by lawyers Azizi Shaghir and Nurul Dalilah Darmawi.
The case was in relation to a bus crash in Johor, on October 7, 2015 in which four tourists from China were killed.
After hearing submissions from both parties, the panel unanimously dismissed the appeal on grounds of no merit. - Mkini
