As Harapan tells PN to debate stimulus plan, Bersih tells Selangor to do the same

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Electoral reform group Bersih has asked the Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor government to bring its economic stimulus plan to the state assembly for debate.
This is just as Harapan pestered the federal government to bring its economic stimulus plan to the Dewan Rakyat for a debate.
"As in the federal case, Selangor’s stimulus package should, therefore, be tabled and debated in the Selangor state legislature," it said in a statement today.
Bersih also criticised the plastering of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari's image on posters promoting the stimulus plan which is intended to provide relief amid an economic downturn brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Not only is the promotion of a personality cult bad for democracy, but this also should not happen because Selangor - by default as a constitutional monarchy - has a parliamentary government.
"There is no menteri besar without the state government, and there is no state government without the confidence of the state legislature.
"Amirudin Shari must not mistake himself to be the state president of Selangor with a statewide personal mandate," it said.
Amirudin today announced the second phase of the state-level stimulus plan, bringing the total injection to RM400 million.
It was done without going through the state assembly.
Top Harapan leaders have repeatedly called on the Perikatan Nasional-led federal government to allow MPs to debate the RM250 billion economic stimulus plan when it was unveiled by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on March 27. - Mkini
