Chow's aide lodges report over FB post for 'defaming Penang CM'

GEORGE TOWN: Four police reports have been lodged against a Facebook user over a post said to have defamed Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow's political secretary Teh Lai Heng lodged a report on Saturday (April 18) at the George Town police district headquarters on Jalan Patani.
Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer and representatives from Penang DAPSY also lodged reports.
Speaking to reporters, Teh said he found the Facebook post under the account of "Nik Nasrul" on Friday (April 17) to contain unfounded accusations against the Chief Minister.
"The statement in the posting is slanderous in nature and (had) unfounded accusations.
"The Chief Minister has never made any statement as stated in the 'Nik Nasrul' Facebook account at any time.
"In fact, as the Chief Minister of Penang and a citizen of Malaysia, he always upholds the Federal Constitution which clearly states that the issue related to citizenship lies with the Federal Government and not the state government," he said after spending about 30 minutes at the police headquarters.
He said the statement made it seem as if the Chief Minister had the power to grant citizenship and gave preference to people from China and Hong Kong, and this could provoke religious and racial disharmony among the people in Malaysia.
Teh expressed his disappointment, saying this was not the first time something like this had been levelled against Chow, with no action taken.
Teh, who is the Komtar assemblyman, urged the police and authorities to take immediate action under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998, Section 499 and Section 500 of the Penal Code against those who were responsible. - Star
