PETALING JAYA: The policeman who allegedly abducted and raped two Mongolian women is expected to be charged today under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act.
“We have received instructions to charge under Section 13(f) of the Atipsom Act.
“The investigation paper for rape is still with the prosecutors... awaiting their decision and instruction, ” said Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal when contacted yesterday.
On April 10, the women were stopped at a roadblock and were kept against their will at a nearby hotel for more than 24 hours before they were rescued by police.
The two victims along with three others have since been placed under an interim protection order. The suspect was also suspended from duty.
In an unrelated case, police busted a gang responsible for a convenience store robbery on April 10 that resulted in RM10,585 in losses.
Five suspects aged between 36 and 38 were arrested in a raid on April 21.
“Police recovered four stolen motorbikes, 174 packets of cigarettes and 39 packets of batteries, ” he said.
Investigations are under way to identify their role in other similar cases within the area. - Star
