Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali has apologised after several photographs which showed him having a meal with Perak state executive councillor Razman Zakaria and a group of others, during the movement control order (MCO) period, had gone viral.
"I apologise and admit my mistake over my presence at a tahfiz school in Lenggong, Perak, on April 17 during an official visit to the Klinik Kesihatan Lenggong to monitor the situation of frontliners handling the Covid-19 outbreak," Noor Azmi said in a statement today.
"I truly appreciate sacrifices made by frontliners including the police, armed forces, Health Ministry staff and other government agencies involved in dealing with this outbreak.
"Thank you for all of your contributions and sacrifices," he said.
Noor Azmi's apology today follows an outcry over several photographs that showed him, together with Razman and several others, sitting on the floor and eating at the tahfiz school despite the ongoing MCO.
Razman had yesterday also issued an apology over the incident.
Noor Azmi, who is Bersatu's Bagan Serai MP, had posted on his Facebook page recently about the visit, along with the pictures, which have since been deleted.
Commenting further, Noor Azmi said he had gone to the Putrajaya district police station this evening to have his statement recorded.
"I have given my full cooperation to the police who are investigating the incident.
"I also appreciate police's commitment in carrying out their duties without looking at an individual's background, position or others," he said.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Saturday said no individuals will be above the law, although he clarified that elected representatives are allowed to carry out their duties, while subjected to MCO guidelines.
