CORONAVIRUS | Deputy Rural Development Minister Abdul Rahman Mohamad has said that photographs of him receiving a cake were unplanned and he had not intended to violate the movement control order (MCO).
According to a report in The Star, Abdul Rahman said the photographs were taken on his birthday, which is on April 13.
Abdul Rahman, who is also Kuala Lipis MP, said the gathering was unplanned and he did not wish to chase away the well-wishers, who had helped him distribute aid during the MCO.
“I was leaving at around 9am when I saw them arriving with a cake. They told me they wanted to wish me well on my journey to Putrajaya, and they wanted to give me the cake as it was my birthday,” he said.
Abdul Rahman felt it would have been rude to turn the men away. He added that he was not wearing a face mask as the Health Ministry had not made it compulsory for healthy individuals to do so.
Abdul Rahman's is one of several cases featuring VIPs in photos where social distancing practices were not observed as prescribed under the MCO.
Two days ago, Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali was pictured having a meal together in Lenggong with a group of people at a tahfiz school.
Perak exco Razman Zakaria has apologised for the gathering, while Perak police chief Razarudin Husain said the incident would be investigated. - Mkini
