PETALING JAYA: Elected representatives are allowed to visit their respective constituencies to extend assistance to the people during the movement control order (MCO) period but with conditions, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“There are standard operating procedures for wakil rakyat. They cannot have big gatherings; hold big events of extending assistance to the people. There must also not be big convoys.
He said MPs and state assemblymen could meet “the people they represent’ but not by flouting MCO rules.
“They are among those who are allowed to continue their duties in their constituencies and state assemblies during the MCO, ” he said.
In addition, he said they should utilise Rela and Civil Defence Force personnel in their areas.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Ismail Sabri said no one, including VIPs and politicians, would be exempted if they violated the MCO.
“It is not right to say that there is discrimination by the police against (certain) violators, ” he said when asked to comment on cases of those holding positions in the government allegedly violating the MCO.
There have been two instances of political leaders photographed in gatherings in which they appeared not to abide by self-distancing rules. - Star
