Give traders their money back, minister tells bazaar organisers

Malaysiakini

Ramadan bazaar organisers should return money paid by traders to set up stalls as the latter are no longer allowed to do so, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"No one should take advantage of someone else's troubles. They paid their deposits in hopes that they can set up a stall but the government has decided to ban Ramadan bazaars.
"Please return the entire deposit or payments they've made," Ismail said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
In Kuala Lumpur, traders would have to pay bazaar organisers between RM250 and RM800 for a spot depending on location.
This payment includes RM120 in licensing fees to Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
While City Hall will refund the RM120, many traders Malaysiakini has spoken to said they want the rest of their money back too.
An organiser told Malaysiakini that refunds will only be paid after May 1, pending a list of traders from DBKL.
Ismail said as an alternative, organisers can also offer to carry forward the payments to next year.
Ramadan is expected to start on Thursday. - Mkini
