‘Golden voice’ RTM newsreader Farit Ismeth Emir dies

Farit Ismeth Emir was an almost permanent feature on RTM’s Dunia Jam 10 in the 1990s.
PETALING JAYA: Former newscaster, Farit Ismeth Emir, one of the most recognisable faces on state broadcaster RTM’s news bulletins in the early 1990s, has died. He was 66.
Farit, who joined RTM in 1986, was also the voice behind several famous television advertisements, including for the Dunhill commercial’s tagline “Gaya, Mutu, Keunggulan” when tobacco brands were allowed to advertise.
Farit, dubbed “the man with the golden voice”, was an almost permanent feature on RTM’s Dunia Jam 10, an hour-long bulletin dedicated to world news.
Colleagues at RTM fondly remember him as Pak Ngah.
Veteran newsreader Harjit Singh Hullon, who would often appear with Farit on Dunia Jam 10, described Farit as a “true friend”.
“He was always willing to help anyone who sought his advice or help, especially the new TV presenters. He may look like a stern guy, but deep down he was very soft spoken and friendly,” Harjit told FMT.
“Loss of a true friend I must say.” - FMT
