Gov't considers placing more areas under enhanced MCO

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Putrajaya is considering to place several more areas now identified as Covid-19 red zones under the enhanced movement control order (MCO).
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry is currently looking into details of the affected areas, after reports of rising positive Covid-19 cases in several locations including Lembah Pantai.
"The Health Ministry is currently doing a detailed evaluation because what is important this time, it will be more focused.
"We do not want to take a radius that is too wide," said the senior minister in charge of the security cluster.
According to Health Ministry data, Lembah Pantai has topped the list of 18 red zones nationwide with 376 confirmed positive cases as of noon yesterday.
Lembah Pantai's total tally of Covid-19 cases was also the highest in Malaysia on April 3 (322 cases) and on April 4 (367).
At present there are three locations - two villages in Simpang Renggam, Kluang, seven villages in Hulu Langat, Selangor, and Menara City One in Kuala Lumpur - placed under the enhanced MCO.
Commenting further, Ismail said the initial enhanced MCO locations could cover a radius of up to 6km from an affected village.
"So we will look into that... in Lembah Pantai, for example, it's a high-density area. So we will see which (exact) locations that need to be locked down.
"Because if we do that it will mean a full lockdown. No one will be allowed to leave the house," he stressed.
As of noon yesterday, all four health districts in Kuala Lumpur have been classified as Covid-19 red zones, with Cheras being the latest addition after recording 44 cases.
A district is categorised as a red zone area once it reaches more than 40 Covid-19 cases. - Mkini
