Harapan urges Putrajaya to be fair with aid

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The Pakatan Harapan council secretariat has cried foul after the coalition's MPs were allegedly left out of the federal government's aid distribution efforts.
In a statement today, the secretariat said in some states such as Johor, Harapan MPs were not contacted by the state's welfare department of aid distribution efforts or were told that it had been taken over by the National Security Council or other agencies.
"The secretariat stresses that the Covid-19 outbreak is not the time for politics and bureaucracy. It is a time for all of us to work together and help those in need.
"We urge the welfare department not to marginalise Harapan MPs in the effort to channel basic food products to the needy.
"Harapan MPs were given a mandate to represent their constituents and have a right to actively participate in efforts to help them," said the council.
The Women, Family and Community Ministry had allocated RM22.2 million in food aid to the National Disaster Management Agency last week.
Each of Malaysia's 222 parliamentary constituencies was supposed to receive 1,000 packages valued at RM1,000 each.
The recipients will be identified through the ministry's database. The Civil Defence and People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) would be roped in for distribution efforts. - Mkini
