GEORGE TOWN: Hundreds of villagers in Jelutong staying at home during the movement control order (MCO) are now busy washing and cleaning their homes due to a flood on Thursday (April 23).
Kampung Dodol, Kampung Masjid and Jalan P. Ramlee were among the places hit after Sungai Pinang burst its banks.
Penang welfare and caring society committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said water between 0.1m and 0.3m deep flooded the area starting at around 4pm on Thursday (April 23).
"About 25 village houses were affected but nobody has been evacuated yet.
"The cause of the flooding was due to heavy rain of 54mm within 60 minutes," he said in a statement.
He added that steps to deepen the rivers and conduct cleaning and maintenance to ensure no obstruction of drainage systems were underway. - Star
