Johor ruler: Ramadan bazaars can wait

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has decreed that Ramadan bazaars should not be held during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Every day new cases are being detected. Now is not the time to hold any event involving mass gatherings.
"The complete effect of the movement control order must be achieved first. This must be our priority and concern. The Ramadan bazaar can wait,” he said in a statement published on Facebook.
Ramadan is expected to start on April 23, just over a week after the movement control order period is supposed to end on April 14.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that bazaars can be held during Ramadan if they follow the ministry's guidelines to ensure social distancing and good hygiene
Selangor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, and Terengganu have already cancelled Ramadan bazaars for this year.
The MCO, which has been extended until April 14, aims to prevent new infections of Covid-19 by waiting out the virus' incubation period.
Meanwhile, Sultan Ibrahim urged for national unity in helping the government combat the pandemic.
“Forget about politics, please… let us work together to save our country from this crisis,” he said. - Mkini
