CORONAVIRUS | Kuantan is the latest district to become a Covid-19 red zone, bringing the total number of red zones to 24.
A district in the red zone means it has more than 40 Covid-19 cases.
Kuantan is one of two red zones in Pahang. The other is the district of Jerantut, with 61 cases, according to data released by the Health Ministry.
Pekan is in the orange zone with 23 cases. Orange zone means a district has recorded between 20 to 40 Covid-19 cases.
The other eight districts in Pahang recorded less than 20 Covid-19 cases, which puts them in the yellow zone.
There are no green zones in Pahang, meaning districts with zero cases.
Nationally, the worst-hit red zones are the districts of Lembah Pantai (417 cases), Hulu Langat (361 cases), Petaling (318 cases), Kuching (192 cases), Seremban (180 cases), Kluang (175 cases), Johor Bahru (158 cases), Klang (134 cases), Gombak (117 cases) and Kepong (107 cases).
The remaining red zones are Titiwangsa (97 cases), Kinta (94 cases), Kota Bharu (85 cases), Tawau (67 cases), Hilir Perak (66 cases), Cheras (64 cases), Jasin (53 cases), Rembau (48 cases), Batu Pahat (48 cases) and Sepang (47 cases).
Malaysia has been under a partial lockdown since March 18 to curb Covid-19.
The movement control order (MCO) was supposed to end on March 31 but was extended until April 14.
Under the MCO, all non-essential businesses and services must close while people are only allowed to leave their homes for approved reasons.
Foreigners are also not allowed into the country while Malaysians cannot leave.
Going forward, the government has indicated that it plans to tailor measures against Covid-19 according to the colour of the zones.
