CORONAVIRUS | Kulai has become the 29th Covid-19 red zone after recording 41 cumulative infections, according to data released by the Health Ministry.
Kulai is one of five red zones in Johor. The others are Kluang (221 cases), Johor Bahru (187), Batu Pahat (52) and Muar (47).
A red zone refers to a district that has recorded more than 40 cumulative Covid-19 cases.
Districts that have recorded 20 to 40 cases are labelled as orange zones while those under 20 cases are listed as yellow zones.
Green Zones are used for districts free of Covid-19.
Based on cumulative data, the other red zones are Rembau, Seremban, Jasin, Melaka Tengah, Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai, Kepong, Cheras, Putrajaya, Hulu Selangor, Sepang, Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Petaling, Hilir Perak, Kinta, Kota Bharu, Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
However, the cumulative numbers may not accurately reflect the Covid-19 situation as many have recovered.
The Health Ministry had previously said it is considering to redefine the zones by relying on active cases figures, or data of patients who have yet to recover and is able to infect others.
However, this has not been implemented yet.
A review by Malaysiakini of the active cases data found that more than a third, or 11 of the declared red zones, have less than 40 active cases as due to recoveries.
Likewise, even though Kulai has 41 cumulative cases, only 19 are still active. - Mkini
