SELAYANG: The latest enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Selayang Baru has shocked many residents.
Teacher Nazri Abdullah, 53, said he was surprised to find the pharmacy he usually goes to being cordoned off by the authorities.
“I live with my wife and three children less than one kilometre from the area,” he said.
“It definitely worries me, being so close to this area. I never expected something like this to happen so close to home,” he added.
Nazri said his primary concern now is keeping his children occupied so that they don’t venture out of doors.
“It is not easy for children to be indoors for so long. They will get bored, so we allow them to play with their gadgets and we’ve also subscribed to all the movie packages so that they can occupy their time safely at home,” he said.
Razali Mohamed, who runs a pharmacy here, said he had expected the enhanced MCO to be imposed.
“I heard that some people managed to flee from the other enhanced MCO area before it was locked down near the Pasar Borong, so it was just a matter of time before something like this happened here, too,” he said.
“I came to open for business today and saw the barbed wire at around 9.15am,” he said.
Razali added that he now has to go to a hypermarket at Batu Caves to buy essentials as the market near here had been cordoned off.
Resident Mohd Syawal was also surprised to see the wet market cordoned off when he went to buy groceries.
“There was no announcement about the closure. I came here and found the place like this,” he said. - Star
