Let family planning clinics operate during MCO to help B40 - Wan Azizah

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The government needs to allow National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) clinics to resume operations during the movement control order (MCO) period to help the B40 group, said Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
In a media statement today, the former deputy prime minister and women, family and community development minister urged the government to review the decision, following concerns raised by several NGOs.
“Private clinics are allowed to operate during MCO. Therefore, I propose that LPPKN clinics be allowed to operate for the B40 group who need their services.
“Besides that, a hotline specifically handled by LPPKN can be set up. This is to manage calls to the Talian Kasih 15999 that are found to have increased during the MCO period.
“This is important for callers who do not have smartphones or computers with Internet access.
“This would enable callers to contact the medical officer or counsellor on duty even from home to obtain needed advice. Medication can also be sent to the caller’s house through delivery services.
“I hope that LPPKN clinics resume operation and the hotline can be set up,” said the Pandan MP.
Yesterday, the Malay Mail reported that NGO FYI KL raised concerns over the government’s announcement that all LPPKN clinics would be closed during MCO.
The online news portal quoted FYI KL social media coordinator Nuraini Rudi saying that following LPPKN clinics stopping operating during MCO, the NGO’s online sexual reproductive and health initiative #SembangMalamJumaat have taken renewed importance.
Nuraini said that the online initiative looked at topics on how to tell if one has sexually transmitted infection (STI) and how to avoid unplanned pregnancies during MCO, among others. - Mkini
