Macai's of Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin free to break MCO?

Malaysiakini:

PKR MP questions why Bersatu delegation allowed to travel inter-state

CORONAVIRUS | A PKR MP today sounded the alarm on a letter that was purportedly issued by an aide of Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin, exempting 12 people, many who are connected to the minister's party Bersatu, from movement restrictions.

Fahmi Fadzil, who is Lembah Pantai MP and PKR communications head, questioned why those individuals were exempted when retweeting a Twitter post by user @milosuam, who in turn posted of a copy of the purported letter by Sayed Amir Muzakkir Sayed Mohammad.

Sayed Amir Muzakkir is Hamzah's political secretary. The purported letter said the 12 were to be allowed to travel from Pahang to the Home Ministry in Putrajaya on official business.

"Is this letter real? If so, what is the official matter of the Home Ministry that involves all these individuals who are believed to be Bersatu leaders?

"(What is) it that is so important and has to be done now that they are given exemption from MCO to travel from Pahang to Putrajaya?," Fahmi said.

Attempts to contact Hamzah for comments on the veracity of the letter were unsuccessful.

Hamzah was appointed Bersatu secretary-general by party president Muhyiddin Yassin last month, amidst protest by party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who said that the appointment was invalid.

The movement control order (MCO) put in place by Putrajaya had banned inter-state and international travel, except for medical emergencies, attending funerals and other matters to be decided at the discretion of the police.

Checks by Malaysiakini revealed at least eight of them [on list] are heads of Bersatu divisions in Pahang while Najwah Halimah is one of Bersatu's supreme council members.

When contacted, Marzuki Yahaya, the other Bersatu secretary-general recognised by Mahathir's faction, confirmed that all the names in the list were Bersatu members.

When asked if the 12 were Home Ministry staff, Marzuki replied in the negative.
