Masjid India lockdown: FT minister says nearly 2,000 food packs delivered twice daily

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa says close to 2,000 food packs will be delivered twice daily to those affected by the lockdown at the Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion in Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysiakini understands that the Federal Territories Ministry had engaged NGOs to provide the food.
Yesterday, Annuar tweeted that there would be 1,950 packs of food delivered twice daily starting yesterday night.
In a tweet at noon today, however, Annuar said "all 1,850 residents" will be getting food twice daily.
He said the food was contributed by "caring Malaysians".
However, the number of residents stated by Annuar has caused confusion.
When the enhanced movement control order on the two buildings was announced Tuesday, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it would affect between 5,000 to 6,000 people.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also had said there were about 5,000 resident.
The issue of feeding the Masjid India residents under lockdown became an issue after Ismail reiterated that foreign missions were responsible for providing aid to migrants, including those under enhanced MCO.
He had said that 97 percent of the affected residents in Jalan Masjid India were migrants.
Meanwhile, de facto Islamic Affairs Minister Zulkifli Mohamad also said that aid would be distributed to those affected in the two buildings.
"This area is in our list. God willing, aid will be sent as soon as possible," he tweeted yesterday.
Zulkifli yesterday had also handed aid to those affected by the extended MCO at Menara City One condominium.
"On my side, agencies under my ministry are helping the foreign workers as much as possible by giving them food and dry goods since the beginning of the MCO," he said in a separate tweet this morning. - Mkini
