MCO compliance in Gombak highest from 12am-8am, less than 90% otherwise

GOMBAK: Compliance with the movement control order (MCO) among the people in the Gombak area varies depending on the period of peak and non-peak hours.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said compliance was at its highest of about 98% between 12am and 8am.
"We discover that many shops comply by closing while vehicles on the roads are significantly fewer, except for those from essential services.
"However, compliance is less than 90% between 8am and 4pm.
It is also similar to the 4pm to 12am period," he told reporters when met at a roadblock at KM14 of Jalan Ipoh on Thursday (April 2).
ACP Arifai said it was unfortunate that many people in the area were still not complying with the MCO as if they don't realise the danger of Covid-19.
"We have conducted five roadblocks in Gombak daily since the start of the MCO on March 18.
"We tell a lot of vehicles to turn back every day as their reasons for being out are not reasonable.
"Some would say they want to buy food much further from their homes, while others say they want to visit relatives," he added.
Those with non-credible reasons for being out would often fail to produce supporting documents such as utility bills as proof they are residents of nearby areas, ACP Arifai said.
He also hoped that the people in Gombak would be patient and comply with the orders from the authorities, especially regarding the nine roads that would be closed in stages as part of the MCO enforcement.
"We are combatting the virus as we need the commitment from all parties to beat it," ACP Arifai said. - Star
