Minister claims dilapidated quarantine centre in Sabah is 'fake news'

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has claimed that images of a dilapidated Covid-19 quarantine centre in Sabah is fake news.
This is despite both federal and state officials have acknowledged the problem.
"A few days ago, there was fake news that supposedly the quarantine centre in Sabah was in poor condition and this has been denied," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
He said this when giving an update on enforcement on fake news. As of yesterday, he said 184 investigation papers have been initiated by the police and MCMC since the start of the movement control order (MCO).
On April 1, Sabah Health and People's Wellbeing Minister Frankie Poon acknowledged that some of the quarantine centres in Sabah were in "unacceptable" condition.
This is after an individual quarantined at the Penampang District Education Centre, used to isolate Malaysians returning from overseas for 14 days, posted pictures on social media of its dilapidated condition.
Health Ministry director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah had also acknowledged the problem on April 1 and said facilities being used as quarantine centres should be liveable.
"The facilities (for use as quarantine centres) are identified by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
"In the beginning, they took all the facilities available. So they have to ensure which one is liveable.
"Those that are not liveable, we too would not recommend them to be used," he had said.
Ismail had previously also accused of The Edge of producing fake news even though the publication never did.- Mkini
