CORONAVIRUS | Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa has expressed dissatisfaction with the measures to combat Covid-19 at the Selayang market, which he said were inadequate.
This is after conducting a spot check at noon today.
"I quietly observed from the logistics area and could see that compliance with the movement control order (MCO) by workers and visitors at the Selayang market was unsatisfactory," he told a press conference which was aired live on Facebook.
Annuar had zoomed in on the market after there were eight reported Covid-19 cases from the site.
"For information, there were six positive Covid-19 cases and recently there were two more, all at this specific market," he said.
Annuar said after the spot check, he conveyed to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to introduce more stringent measures at the market.
"I'm suggesting that the lories be more spaced out so that workers won't be crowding together to carry the goods," he said.
For now, the Ketereh MP said there was no plan to close the market, considering feedback from businesses and wholesalers.
"We allow wholesalers to operate, as usual, we have considered the appeals from farmers who want the supply to continue.
"The advice is to comply with the guidelines set by the Health Ministry," he said.
As of noon today, Malaysia has recorded 3,483 Covid-19 cases with 57 deaths.
Under the MCO, non-essential businesses and services have been ordered closed.
However, restaurants are allowed to operate for takeaways and online food delivery while markets and groceries are also allowed to open, albeit with restricted hours.
The MCO aims to bring the Covid-19 cases under control and prevent an exponential increase. - Mkini
