Minister: No drive-through, self-pickup Ramadan bazaars

Malaysiakini

Physical Ramadan bazaars which use drive-through and self-pickup or e-hailing services are not allowed to operate, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"The meeting today decided that any business regarding Ramadan bazaars, whether it involves drive-through or pack and pickup is not allowed," he told a press conference in Putrajaya this afternoon.
He later clarified that physical bazaars that use e-hailing services to deliver are also not permitted.
"Any type of bazaar, even if it uses e-hailing is not allowed. If there is a bazaar with 50 lots in a group where e-hailing services will make pickups after receiving orders is not allowed," he added.
Ramadan is expected to start next week on April 23.
Bazaars during the fasting month have been a mainstay of Malaysian culture. This has been disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some states have sought solutions to allow traders to earn a living while  observing the social distancing requirements under the movement control order.
Selangor for example plans to collaborate with Grab Food and set up central kitchens where food can be delivered from.
However, Ismail's remarks about traders not being allowed to operate in the same space casts doubt whether Selangor's plan is still feasible.
Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Ismail reiterated that interstate travel is not allowed during the MCO period.
"So large movements to balik kampung is not allowed," he added. - Mkini
