CORONAVIRUS | The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) will consider public views on whether barbershops and hair salons can operate during the movement control order (MCO) period.
This was the commitment made by Senior Minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his daily press conference today.
"God willing, Miti will study all views by the public... Miti will fine-tune (memperhalusi) this matter," he said.
Yesterday, Miti announced that barbershops and hair salons were among several other new sectors that qualify for MCO exemption.
Other services included full-service laundry outlets and the automotive sector.
To qualify, businesses must apply for exemptions starting Monday.
However, there have been objections from Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and the Selangor and Federal Territories Indian Hairstylists Association.
The Penang and Negeri Sembilan government have announced that they would not allow such services to resume business.
Meanwhile, Ismail said the government will not relax the 8am to 8pm operating hour rule for businesses for now.
He was asked if the rule would be changed in view of Ramadan. - Mkini
