An online poll by the National Security Council (NSC) on whether the government should further extend its movement control order (MCO) has again seen the majority supporting its extension.
Conducted on its official Telegram channel this evening, the poll had quickly gained traction with over 80,000 responses within 40 minutes from its launch.
As of 5.25pm, over 87,100 followers of the channel had voted in the Yes or No question.
"Is it reasonable for the MCO to be extended after this April 28?" the question reads.
At the time, 89 percent of the responses had chosen the Yes answer.
This was the second time that NSC had conducted such an online poll to gauge the people's opinion on MCO, which came to force on March 18 with the aim of breaking the Covid-19 chain of infection in the country.
It was first done on April 9, asking if it was reasonable to extend the MCO to its third phase.
The MCO was introduced by the government last month to lower the number of movement by the public and thus lowering the risk of the Covid-19 virus spread in the local community.
This also at the same time allows healthcare services to focus on detecting positive cases so that they can be isolated and treated.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had told the media that the first two phases of MCO had shown positive signs, with the number of new positive cases having dwindled to double digits recently.
The Health Ministry has also recorded a number of active cases below 2,000 on Wednesday, with 3,452 of the total 5,532 positive cases in the country had fully recovered. - Mkini
