CORONAVIRUS | The Petaling Jaya Old Town market will be closed for five days beginning today after a trader tested positive for Covid-19 on April 25.
Petaling district disaster management committee chairperson Johary Anuar said a disinfection exercise was carried out this morning and all traders are advised to go for health screening at the market on Wednesday (April 29).
He said the committee was informed of the patient's test result yesterday.
"The trader went for screening on April 18 after having high fever. He tested positive on April 25. Between the period, he did not go to the market.
"We advise all the traders at the market to undergo screening this Wednesday.
"However, those with symptoms are advised to immediately go to the hospital for screening," he told Malaysiakini.
This is the second market in Petaling Jaya to shut down due to a Covid-19 infection after the Taman Megah morning market.
Yesterday, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 60 traders at the Taman Megah market would be screened after one of them tested positive for the virus.
As of yesterday, Malaysia recorded 38 new cases, bringing the total to 5,780.
The death toll remained at 98. - Mkini
