Ramadan bazaars in Selangor cancelled, MB moots online sales

Malaysiakini

The Selangor government has decided to cancel Ramadan bazaars until the Health Ministry and Health Department says otherwise.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari (below), however, is confident that traders can shift their businesses online to create an "online bazaar" instead.
"We will postpone or cancel Ramadan bazaars until an appropriate date is set. That is, if the (Health) Ministry and Health Department advises that it can be done, then we will proceed.
"Otherwise we will postpone it... but I believe that with ability to sell online and make deliveries, we will soon hear about an online Ramadan bazaar," he said at a press conference in Shah Alam today.
He said that the order to cancel Ramadan bazaars had also been relayed and discussed with the various local councils online.
Ramadan is expected to start on April 23, just over a week after the movement control order period is supposed to end on April 14.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that bazaars can be held during Ramadan if they follow the ministry's guidelines to ensure social distancing and good hygiene.
Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu have already cancelled Ramadan bazaars for this year. - Mkini
