CORONAVIRUS | Putrajaya will only allow 400 Malaysians to enter Johor from Singapore daily from now onwards.
In order to control the number, any Malaysian wishing to return from Singapore must acquire a "re-entry permit" from the Malaysian High Commission.
Applications must be made two days before the intended day of departure through email to stmsg@mhc.org.sg.
Senior Minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this system was necessary to ensure that the return of Malaysians is performed in an orderly manner.
He said all returnees must undergo 14-day mandatory quarantine in gazetted quarantine centres.
He revealed that so far, 900 people have applied for the re-entry permits.
Singapore has the highest number of active Covid-19 infections in the region, mostly attributed to originating from foreign worker dormitories.
So far, the number of infected Malaysians are believed to be low.
Singapore has mandated stay-at-home orders (called "circuit breaker" by the Singaporean government) beginning April 7 and will last at least until June 1.
This had left many Malaysians in Singapore without work.
