Selangor distributes food packs to 2,600 families cooped up in low-cost flats

Many residents in crowded public flats have been struggling to survive since the MCO began last month.
PETALING JAYA: Selangor is distributing food aid worth some RM131,000 to residents of low-cost flats and People’s Housing Project (PPR) in the state affected by the movement control order (MCO).
The move, under the Selangor Compassionate Assistance Programme, will involve 2,632 families living in these flats, and also involves the Selangor Housing Board.
Today, the state government distributed 980 packs worth about RM50 each to residents at the Kg Baru Hicom PPR, with more flats to receive the aid in the coming days.
They include PPRs in Kota Damansara and Serendah, as well as council homes in Bandar Baru Bangi.
“Since the MCO was implemented following the spread of the Covid-19 disease, a lot of families’ incomes have been affected, especially the B40 group including tenants at PPR and council homes,” said Selangor housing exco Haniza Talha in a statement.
Yesterday, FMT reported that many families have been cooped up in tiny low-cost flats, struggling to put food on the table and trying to explain to their children why they cannot go outside to play. - FMT
