CORONAVIRUS | The Singapore government has donated 5,000 sampling kits to Malaysia to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Singapore High Commission said Malaysia had reached out to Singapore to ask for additional universal transport medium (UTM) swabs to help boost its stocks.
“In the spirit of cooperation and friendship between our countries and our peoples, the Singapore government has offered to contribute 5,000 UTM swabs to Malaysia, and Malaysia has accepted,” it said.
The sampling kits were handed by Singapore High Commissioner Vanu Gopala Menon to Malaysian Health Minister Dr Adham Baba in Putrajaya today.
Meanwhile, at the Health Ministry’s Facebook page, the ministry said the sampling kits would be sent to the National Public Health Laboratory in Sungai Buloh before being distributed to clinics and hospitals nationwide.
A sampling kit for Covid-19 tests typically contains one or two swabs for taking samples from the back of a patient’s nose and throat.
It also includes a small tube containing a chemical solution, which helps preserves the sample pending the test being carried out. - Mkini
