Talian Kasih receives 135 complaints during MCO

Malaysiakini

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry's domestic violence hotline has received 135 calls during the movement control order (MCO) period.
This was revealed by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

Ismail urged the public to cooperate and lodge reports through the hotline if they suspect that their neighbour is a victim of domestic violence.

"Sometimes (the victims) are not brave enough to complain or their phones are taken away.

"We urge the public, especially neighbours, if you hear something suspicious (next door), call Talian Kasih," he said.

The public can lodge complaints to Talian Kasih by calling 15999 or through the WhatsApp application on the number 019-261-5999.

Meanwhile, Ismail said fake news was still a problem for the government.

He said the latest incident involved claims that the third phase of the MCO was not gazetted and therefore could not be enforced.

This, he said, was false.

So far, the authorities have opened 220 investigation papers related to the Covid-19 outbreak, he added.

Of this figure, 24 people have been charged in court and 13 have been convicted. - Mkini
