Tuan Ibrahim urges Malaysians to adapt to green lifestyle

Malaysiakini

Environment Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has urged the people to continue practising a green lifestyle even after the movement control order (MCO) is lifted.
Addressing the public through Facebook live in conjunction with Earth Day today, Tuan Ibrahim (above) noted that throughout the MCO, which began March 18, there has been a positive development with environmental pollution.
"Throughout the MCO, we have noticed positive changes in the environment.
"The sky is clear and the river is clean. That was what was reported all over the world due to the current phenomenon.
"Therefore, I urge the public to continue living a green lifestyle such as taking public transport, use electricity at home efficiently, and practise recycling items," he said.
The MCO, which is now in the third phase, is slated to end on April 28.
The consequences of climate change in Malaysia, he said, has been felt in the country, such as floods and a long drought season, which brought about difficulties in the daily lives of the people.
He added that extreme climate change happened because of human activities such as releasing excessive carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Tuan Ibrahim pleaded support from all parties to continue giving their commitment to taking care of the Earth.
"It's a continuous effort, not only for us but for the future generations," he said.
Although Earth Day this year, with its theme "tackling the climate change", couldn't be celebrated on a large scale due to the MCO, the ministry has planned several online activities such as a special webinar, discussions, speeches, and competitions pertaining to Earth Day.
Earth Day was introduced in 1970. - Mkini
