Many have commented that the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry had their advice campaign thru the Ministry's Official Instagram on 30 March 2020 that women should "dress nicely like in the office" for their husbands and also urged women not to nag at their husbands to help with their household chores while urging wives to speak with their husbands in a squeaky voice of Doraemon, a Japanese cartoon character and 'giggie coyly'.
It further advised working mothers during the current MCO to stay focused and be productive while working from home. One of the tips given was to avoid home clothes, but to wear make-up and dress neatly.
When the Ministry's advice had provoked a public outrage, the Instagram posts was removed and an apology was offered, with a remark, "We would like to apologise if several tips were inappropriate or if they touched on the sensitivities of certain groups".
Surely, this advice campaign on Instagram was designed and written by a team, vetted by a committee, revised and checked again, and approved by the higher-ups before making it public.
Is our Ministry of Women, Family and Community development clueless about modern living and the role a working mother does to keep her family going with so much stress.
Earlier, our Health Minister (a doctor) who did not know much about science and health had dispensed advice that could seriously impact our health.
Sadly, the calibre and performance of the Ministers in the Muhyiddin's "back-door" administration does not inspire confidence in the rakyat, while his Ministers appear to be outdoing one another in their mediocrity and abysmal policies.
We look forward to the day when a racially balanced, progressive, inclusive, engaged and forward-thinking ministerial cabinet is able to lead Malaysia, this BolehLand, out of the mess that we are now in. - Mohd. Kamal Abdullah
