Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has filed a revision application against the Sessions Court’s dismissal of his bid to strike out his RM2 million money laundering and false statement charges.
The Pontian MP filed the criminal revision application at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registry earlier this month.
His lawyer Hamidi Md Noh confirmed to Malaysiakini today on the filing of the application.
“The revision application was filed against the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court’s decision to dismiss the striking-out bid (by Ahmad),” he said.
Hamidi added that his client’s application is fixed for mention before Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Aslam Zainuddin tomorrow morning.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code, the High Court is empowered to hear revision application on any alleged miscarriage of justice arising from the misconception of law and procedural irregularity from lower courts, among others.
On July 24, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court dismissed Ahmad’s application to strike out his RM2 million money laundering and false statement case.
Sessions Court judge Azman Ahmad had ruled that the striking out application by the accused was premature at this part of the proceedings at the lower court.
On Jan 21, before the Sessions Court, Ahmad claimed trial to a money laundering charge of failing to declare to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) RM2 million which he allegedly received from former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
He also claimed trial to a second charge of giving a false statement to the MACC.
On Feb 21, he filed the striking out application.
The Sessions Court is set to hear Ahmad’s money laundering and false statement case on Oct 1, 2, 16, 23, Nov 6, and Dec 24. - Mkini
