KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador today confirmed that Bukit Aman has opened an investigation paper on Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali for flouting mandatory home quarantine after returning from Turkey on July 7.
“Police have opened an investigation paper on this case,” he told Bernama TV.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (investigation/legal) Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police have received 27 reports on the issue.
“Police are investigating Khairuddin in connection with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342),” he said.
Yesterday, the health ministry said it had issued a compound of RM1,000 to Khairuddin on Aug 7 for breaching regulations under the Act. It said he paid the fine.
Khairuddin, who returned from a visit to Turkey on July 7, had his first nasopharyngeal swab sample taken on the same day and was found to be negative. His second and third Covid-19 screening tests also showed negative results.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok claimed the minister did not undergo the mandatory 14 days’ quarantine upon his return and, according to his Facebook postings, had attended several public functions after that.
Khairuddin, who is also a PAS central committee member, has been criticised by numerous parties since then for not complying with the SOPs set by the authorities.
He has since apologised and given up four months’ salary to the Covid-19 relief fund. - FMT
