BUTTERWORTH: Severe punishment will be imposed on those who deliberately fly the Jalur Gemilang upside down as such an act is considered to be an insult to the country, said Shabudin Yahaya, the deputy minister for law.
He said there were still cases where the national flag was installed upside down or damaged.
“The act can actually be considered as an ideology that is trying to be spread by certain individuals or groups at this time and it is in conflict with our desire to continue to uphold the sovereignty of the country,” he told reporters at a constituency event here.
Shabudin is MP for Tasek Gelugor.
Yesterday, two people were detained in Langkawi for flying the Kedah flag upside down at a seafood restaurant in Pandak Mayah, Kuah. The owner and his Bangladeshi worker have been arrested. - FMT
