The enhanced movement control order (MCO) in six localities in Semporna and one locality in Kunak in Sabah that was due to expire tomorrow is now set to be extended from Oct 24 to Nov 6, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri.
He told his daily briefing on Facebook live that the extension was to allow for the second round of Covid-19 screening as the impacted areas are still high-risk.
"However, a little flexibility will be given to grocery stores to operate from 6am until 6pm to provide opportunities for residents to buy basic necessities," he said.
In addition, Anjung Teduh in Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu would also fall under the enhanced MCO and would come into effect from Oct 24 until Nov 6.
Ismail also announced that nine prisons and detention centres in Perlis, Kedah, Perak and Selangor as well as a village in Lahad Datu, Sabah would also be placed under the enhanced MCO.
The nine centres are the Perlis correctional centre, Sungai Petani prison in Kedah, Taiping, Kamunting and Tapah prisons in Perak, and the Puncak Alam correctional centre, Sungai Buloh remand prison, Kajang prison and Kajang Women’s Prison in Selangor.
"Today's special session agreed to implement the enhanced MCO in the Northern Zone and Selangor Zone prisons as well as adjacent housing quarters effective from Oct 22 to Nov 4," said Ismail.
He added that the SOP for all prisons and quarters were the same as those in other prison areas where the enhanced MCO was already implemented.
"Among them is that movement in and out of the area is not allowed, including visits by inmate's family members.
"The movement of prison staff is to be determined based on the SOP released by the Malaysian Prisons Department and detainees who are set to be released during the enhanced MCO period will be isolated from other prisoners," said Ismail.
Yesterday, Ismail announced that due to rising Covid-19 cases, an enhanced MCO would be imposed at the Seberang Perai prison and adjoining quarters in Penang from today until Nov 4.
He also said yesterday that an enhanced MCO would be imposed at the Taman Harmoni People's Housing Project (PPR) in Sandakan from Oct 23 to Nov 5. - Mkini
