‘Employers should act against workers exploiting work-from-home order’

 

Employers should be responsible and take action against their employees who exploited the work-from-home order to go out for social activities such as shopping, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

This came after the government announced a work-from-home order for managers and supervisors from certain sectors in areas under the conditional movement control order (MCO) starting Thursday (Oct 22).

“We see that the infections are also happening at the workplace and so on, so the government has given this chance to let people work from home, and not to go out for leisure or to go shopping.

“The employer is responsible for making sure (their employees) are working from home. We have work and KPI to complete, we are not just sitting at home without work,” Noor Hisham said in his press conference today.

He related his 14-day home quarantine experience recently, where he initially thought he would not have much work to do.

On the contrary, he said he worked 14 hours a day throughout the two weeks.

“I had no time to leave the house because we have KPIs, we have work to do as set by our employers,” he said.

He urged employers to take action against their employees who were found to have not completed their work from home.

“For example, we have to finish our work in eight hours but if we did not do it, then the employers should take action,” he said. - Mkini
