Ex-FGV Holdings senior GM slapped with another corruption charge

If found guilty, Norazam Abdul Hameed faces a maximum of 20 years in jail and a fine of not less than five times the amount of gratification sought or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

SHAH ALAM: A former senior general manager of FGV Holdings Bhd has pleaded not guilty to a corruption charge before the Sessions Court here today.

Norazam Abdul Hameed is charged with accepting a RM10,000 commission from Mohd Rizal Kassim to recommend MRA Sustainable Solution for audit work to obtain the International Sustainability Carbon Certification (ISCC) for eight factories under FGV’s subsidiary, FGV Palm Industries Sdn Bhd.

The alleged offence took place on March 2, last year at Jalan Prima Saujana 2/11, Kajang.

If found guilty under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, Norazam will face a maximum of 20 years in jail and a fine of not less than five times the amount of gratification sought or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Azwa urged the court to impose a RM10,000 bail with one surety against Norazam and for his passport to be surrendered to the court pending the disposal of his case.

“We are making a request to transfer his case to the KL Sessions Court to be tried,” she said, adding that Norazam had also claimed trial yesterday to a charge of agreeing to accept a RM10,000 commission from MRA Sustainable Solution.

Lawyer Mohd Hisyam Md Nen, appearing for Norazam, urged the court to impose a lower bail amount of RM5,000 on the grounds that he is no longer working.

“I understand Norazam will be facing another charge tomorrow, and imposing a high amount of bail will put a financial burden on him,” he said.

Sessions Court judge Rihaida Rafie granted bail at RM8,000 with one surety for Norazam and ordered him to report to the nearest MACC office once a month until his case was concluded.

“Since the defence did not raise any objection, I allowed the prosecution’s application to transfer this case to the KL Sessions Court,” she said.

Diana later told reporters that Norazam will face another charge at the Seremban Sessions Court tomorrow. - FMT
