COVID-19 | Putrajaya has announced an administratively enforced targeted enhanced movement control order (MCO) to be imposed on the Alor Setar Prison in Kedah.
This came after the Health Ministry's confirmation of an increase in Covid-19 positive cases in the prison, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement.
The restriction would be imposed for 14 days from 12am on Oct 6, both within the prison as well as its surrounding staff quarters.
Throughout the targeted enhanced MCO period, no movement in or out of the area will be allowed, including visits by families of inmates.
Of the 317 new infections recorded nationwide yesterday, Kedah recorded the second-highest number of cases with 102 new infections, including two patients who returned from Sabah.
After the addition of 97 cases yesterday, there are currently 317 cases in the Tembok prison cluster in Kedah.
Meanwhile, Ismail said police yesterday held 433 people for breaching recovery MCO rules, of which 60 were placed under remand, 28 released on bail and 345 issued with fines.
In terms of border control, the ongoing multi-agency operations arrested 76 undocumented migrants and one human smuggler.
From those arrested, 27 were found with no legal documents while attempting to leave Malaysia through illegal routes near Desaru, Johor.
Malaysia's Covid-19 cases are on the rise with daily three-digit new infections, setting record highs since the start of the pandemic earlier this year. - Mkini
