Heed Agong's 'stop politicking' reminder, allow Pejuang to register – Dr M

Pejuang pro-tem chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government should heed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's reminder to stop politicking, particularly by refraining from political action such as rejecting Pejuang's registration as a political party.

He said Pejuang welcomed the King's reminder yesterday to stop politicking and destabilising the government and said the advice is surely not limited to opposition politicians but also government politicians.

"Therefore, it is hoped that while opposition politicians respect His Majesty's advice, government politicians and the government should stop political action such as sacking politicians who don't support the government, terminating allocations for elected representatives who don't support the government, 'buying' opposing political party members to topple the opposing party's government, forcing an election because of a coup, rejecting the registration of political parties such as Pejuang, and many other political acts such as bribery in elections," he said his blog today.

Pejuang has submitted its registration to the Registrar of Societies on Aug 19, but the Bersatu splinter party has yet to be formally registered as a political party.

Yesterday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had decided not to accede to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's request to declare a state of emergency under Article 150 of the Federal Constitution.

The palace also said in a statement that the king also reminded politicians to stop politicking and destabilising the government, and stressed the importance of the upcoming Budget 2021 that is to be tabled in the parliament.

Meanwhile, Mahathir also welcomed the king's decision not to declare a state of emergency, saying that it is a wise decision that prioritises the people's interests.

"The rakyat are surely delighted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decision," he said. - Mkini
